ORD KORD Pet-aware airport guide

Chicago O'Hare International Airport

Chicago, United States · IATA ORD · ICAO KORD

Pet relief area & accessibility

Chicago O'Hare (ORD) maintains pet relief areas in Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 5, both pre- and post-security. The post-security relief areas in Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are located near gates B12, F9, and L10, and Terminal 5 has a post-security relief area near gate M12. Outdoor relief areas with grass and fire-hydrant markers are available on every lower-level baggage claim curb. ORD is a hub for both American Airlines and United Airlines, so if you need to connect between domestic Terminal 1 (United) and international Terminal 5 (most foreign carriers) with a pet, plan at least 90 minutes since the inter-terminal transfer requires either the Airport Transit System or a Terminal 5 shuttle bus and you may need to clear security again.

Before you fly

Confirm your airline's pet program before you book — every carrier publishes a slightly different cabin carrier limit, in-cabin pet count, and breed-restriction list. Browse the airline pet policies for the carrier you plan to fly, and review the guides library for country-specific import rules and carrier preparation tips. The information on this page is editorial and should be confirmed with the airport's official passenger services desk before travel.
